Research translation and policy guidance
Leveraging community-based and international partnerships, science-policy specialists with expertise in biology, political science and science diplomacy will translate research insights from both global and local analyses into actionable recommendations for growing and scaling-up NBCAs. These recommendations will guide implementers (local authorities, governments, UN Climate Change, and UN Biodiversity processes) and global funders (Global Environment Facility, Green Climate Fund) to direct funding and resources effectively toward NBCAs, and enhance capacity at community level.
Working with and alongside local stakeholders in the project’s focus areas, we will co-create actionable policy insights and recommendations. Unlike a linear research-to-policy recommendation approach, our integrative policy engagement framework functions as a science-policy broker and research co-creation of evidence-based options and ethical decision-making. We conduct a literature review, and engage team expertise and members of our External Advisory Board to scope policy options and needs. Our iterative workshops will engage local stakeholders and global actors (e.g., UNFCCC, CBD, and global funding agencies). Policy guidance will be generated through research co-creation informed by two levels of analysis: (1) global database insights (WP1) will inform climate and biodiversity institutions (UNFCCC, CBD), enhancing global progress understanding, highlighting imbalances, and guiding targeted resource allocation; and (2) deep-dive study findings will inform funding agencies (e.g., Green Climate Fund, Global Environmental Facility), and national and subnational governments aiding equitable resource allocation. Co-creation will aid capacity strengthening, and data and a toolkit for scaling NBCAs in regional focus areas and worldwide.
