Felipe Montoya

Dr. Montoya introduced the field of Environmental Anthropology in the University of Costa Rica, where he is professor emeritus. Dr. Montoya is currently Full Professor at the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change at York University, where he holds the Chair in Neotropical Conservation. 

 Most recently, Felipe Montoya has directed three feature-length documentary films exploring the social determinants of wellbeing among Nicaraguan migrants, peasant livelihoods and Indigenous land struggles in southern Costa Rica. Dr Montoya is a collaborator working closely with the Central America team and York University’s Las Nubes eco-campus in Costa Rica.

Biography

Felipe Montoya received a PhD in cultural anthropology at the University of New Mexico and an MSc in biology at the University of Costa Rica
