P rofessor Boran is a specialist of global climate governance focusing on embedding ethics and human rights perspectives in interdisciplinary and trans-sectoral research on global climate governance, and aligning climate adaptation and mitigation with the protection and recovery of nature, informed by science and grounded in justice principles. With 10+ years of experience at the UNFCCC Conferences (COPs) as York University’s Head of Delegation, Professor Boran has organized nine official events at the UNFCCC.
Streaming of panels on the UNFCCC channel of panels at COP26 and COP27 reached over 2.7K viewers in total. In 2022, Professor Boran attended the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP 15 held in Montreal, leading a team of students to contribute to the Global Leadership Initiative for Global Policy journal. Idil Boran is the author of Political Theory and Global Climate Action (Routledge, 2019) and has previously served, between 2021-2024, as the Associated Director of CIFAL York. Professor Boran leads the project as Nominated Principal Investigator (NPI), overseeing all work packages and closely collaborating with the Central America Team.
Biography
Idil Boran is a professor of applied environmental governance and public policy in the Philosophy Department and Faculty Fellow with the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research in the Planetary Health stream.
