Fidele Ruzigandekwe

He is currently the Deputy Executive Secretary for Programs at the Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration. The Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration (GVTC), established under the GVTC Treaty 2015 between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda and Uganda, is a framework of programs, plans and activities to conserve a network of transboundary protected Areas in the Greater Virunga Landscape (GVL).  The geographical parameters for the work of the GVTC include; the transboundary ecosystem of the Central Albertine Transfrontier Protected Area Network shared by eight protected areas including Parc National des Virunga and Sarambwe Nature Reserve in DRC; Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Rwenzori Mountains National Park, Semuliki National Park in Uganda, and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.

In the last 30 years, Mr. Ruzigandekwe has worked with various organizations and in different capacities; Monitoring and Evaluation Manager-Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Independent consultant on environmental issues, Executive Director-Rwanda Wildlife Agency (RWA), Environmental Officer-Ministry of Environment & Tourism (MINETO), Research Assistant in Ornithology & Biodiversity Conservation (OBICO)-National University of Rwanda, and a Science Teacher at the School of Science in Nyanza, Rwanda. He speaks English, French, and Kinyarwanda fluently. Apart from Rwanda, Mr. Ruzigandekwe has traveled and worked in different countries all over the world; South Africa, Sweden, Uganda, DRC, Germany, Kenya, Netherlands, Ghana, Egypt, Mexico, United Kingdom, Belgium.  Fidele Ruzigandekwe is a co-applicant, contributing to the Africa team (WP2).

Biography

Fidele Ruzigandekwe is a Conservation Ecologist, Biologist, and Natural Resources Management Expert. Mr. Ruzigandekwe holds a Masters of Science degree in Conservation Biology, a License in Biology and a Bachelor’s degree in Sciences. He has c cumulative thirty years track-record experience (with 20 years in leadership positions) in Environmental Management / Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Change related issues within the Albertine Rift Region;
