BioCAM4 held its first co-creation workshop in Kakamega, Kenya, December 8-10—its second on the African continent following the Rwanda workshop in July—marking an important milestone in the project’s implementation. The workshop was hosted by BioCAM4 partner, the African Research and Impact Network (ARIN), under the leadership of ARIN’s Executive Director, Dr. Joanes Atela, and research team, in close collaboration with project partner the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and BioCAM4’s host institution, York University.
The workshop convened researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders from the region to explore how to advance ambitious, high-integrity Nature-Based Climate Action (NBCAs) across Kenya’s Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB). Discussions emphasized that climate change impacts are deeply intertwined with biodiversity loss, ecosystem degradation, and public health challenges—highlighting the importance of integrated approaches that strengthen synergies across policy, science, and action.
This workshop represents a cornerstone for BioCAM4’s work in the region. Further insights, including a documentary capturing the co-creation process, will be shared in the weeks and months ahead.
